Andra Coffee House / Roastery

Andra Coffee House / Roastery began with a simple objective: to better understand how exceptional coffee is produced. What started as a small roasting setup and the sale of carefully roasted coffee online has grown into a dedicated roasting project and, soon, a physical coffee house in Whickham, Gateshead (NE16), opening in summer.

From the beginning, our approach has been guided by careful observation and experimentation. Over the past year, we have focused extensively on the scientific and technical aspects of roasting—studying the physical characteristics of green coffee such as bean density and moisture content, alongside processing methods and elevation (measured in metres above sea level, MASL). These variables influence heat transfer, roast development, and ultimately the flavour profile in the cup. By understanding these factors, we aim to unlock the full potential of each coffee we roast.

Through continuous testing and evaluation, we have refined our range to focus exclusively on high-quality coffees. Every coffee we source and roast is assessed across multiple brewing methods to ensure clarity, balance, and accessibility for the consumer. This process allows us to provide coffees that perform consistently whether brewed as espresso, filter, or at home using a variety of methods.

Our next step is the opening of the Andra Coffee House / Roastery in Whickham. The space is designed not only as a café but as an open environment centred around coffee education, transparency, and craft. Customers will be able to experience freshly roasted coffee firsthand, observe our in-house roasting process, and explore a curated selection of coffee products while enjoying expertly prepared drinks—from a carefully balanced espresso to a perfectly textured flat white.

At Andra, our mission is simple: to roast extraordinary coffee, present it with clarity and knowledge, and create a space where quality, curiosity, and great coffee come together.
